What to Know Before ClosureFast Procedure

June 13, 2018 • • Varicose Veins

Millions of people suffer from varicose veins in the U.S., as well as symptoms like pain, aching, cramping, swelling and itching, not to mention the unattractive appearance these veins can cause. Not too long ago, the only option for treating varicose veins was vein stripping which, while it can be effective in some patients, is associated with discomfort, prolonged healing, and long and very visible scars.

Fortunately, today there are minimally-invasive varicose vein treatment options, like laser vein treatment and other options, that can help men and women eliminate ugly veins and their painful symptoms without the long and uncomfortable recovery period. One of the most popular vein treatment options is ClosureFast, a minimally-invasive treatment that uses radiofrequency energy to heat up and destroy damaged veins so normal circulation can be “rerouted” and restored.

What You Should Know About ClosureFast

If you’re considering the ClosureFast procedure, knowing what to expect during and after your treatment is an important part of feeling confident about your care and your results. Here’s what you should know:

Can I go home the same day?

Yes. ClosureFast is performed right at our facility on an outpatient basis, which means you’ll be able to go home the same day. The ClosureFast procedure takes less than an hour to complete, and once your procedure is done, you’ll be be able to go home shortly afterward.

Will I need to have anesthesia?

No, ClosureFast can be performed using a local anesthetic to numb the treatment area, without the need for general anesthesia.

What is recovery like? When can I resume my regular activities?

One of the major benefits of ClosureFast and other minimally-invasive varicose vein procedures is that you’ll be able to get back to your regular routine soon after your treatment. In fact, you can resume most of your regular activities right away. You’ll have some bruising and swelling afterward, but those issues will resolve pretty quickly. You’ll also need to avoid strenuous physical activity and heavy lifting for a week or so after your procedure. You also may need to wear compression stockings or socks afterward to help the area heal faster.

Will insurance cover the cost of my ClosureFast treatment?

Most insurance companies as well as MediCare recognize that vein disease needs to be treated to support healthy circulation and prevent potentially serious conditions from developing. That means that in many cases, insurance will cover the cost of the procedure, or at least part of the costs. Our practice works closely with all insurance providers to ensure every patient receives maximum reimbursement for their care.

How can I tell if I’m a good candidate for ClosureFast?

While ClosureFast can be an ideal option for many patients, it’s not the best choice for everyone. Before any procedure is performed, Dr. Iwamoto will perform a vein assessment to help determine the cause of your varicose veins as well as the best treatment option for optimal results.
