What Is ClosureFast Varicose Vein Treatment?

Posted on May 21, 2018 Posted by Desert Vein Institute in Vein Treatment

Millions of people suffer from varicose veins, and many of those men and women suffer from symptoms like cramps, achiness, heaviness and other types of discomfort. Even when varicose veins don’t cause uncomfortable symptoms, they can still be ugly, they can still interfere with normal circulation – and worse, they can also be a sign of a more serious underlying health problem.

Fortunately, today there are several cutting-edge treatment options that can help you eliminate varicose veins so you can enjoy better vein health – and look better, too. ClosureFastTM is one of the most popular varicose vein options, using a minimally-invasive approach that lets you recover more quickly and more comfortably.

How does ClosureFast work?

ClosureFast uses radiofrequency energy to heat up the lining of the diseased blood vessel, gently damaging the vessel interior so it closes off to the flow of blood. Once the varicose vein is sealed, blood is “automatically” rerouted to surrounding healthy veins so your symptoms are relieved. over time, the vein is absorbed by the body, and the ugly purplish appearance fades away.

During the ClosureFast procedure, a small incision is made through the skin into the diseased vein. Then, the doctor inserts a very thin catheter into the vein, advancing it to the treatment area. Once the catheter is in position, radiofrequency energy is released in bursts to heat or “ablate” small segments of the vein until the entire vein is treated.

Like laser vein treatment options, ClosureFast is completed as an outpatient procedure, and it can be performed under local anesthesia, with no need for general anesthesia and the potential associated risks and side effects. Most procedures can be completed in under an hour, which means you can have your treatment in the morning and be back home and enjoy your day by the early afternoon.

What happens during recovery?

Once your procedure is complete, you’ll be able to return home and resume many of your regular activities right away. You’ll need to avoid strenuous physical activity and prolonged periods of standing for about a week after your procedure, and you may have very minor bruising or swelling which will disappear soon afterward. Most men and women experience relief of their symptoms within a few days to a week or two after their ClosureFast treatment. And of course, Dr. Iwamoto will provide you with complete instructions for your aftercare and recovery so you can heal quickly and comfortably.
